Radical cystectomy is the standard method for treating bladder cancer, which is generally one of the longest and most complex surgeries in terms of scale and difficulty. The main issue with this surgery lies in the postoperative complications. To minimize these complications as much as possible, a new technique has been developed and implemented by Professor Guram Karazanashvili at the Karazanashvili Robotic Center – preserving the peritoneum and performing a full extraperitonealization of the new bladder. The use of this innovative technique has reduced life-threatening postoperative complications from 30.3% to 5.08%, according to general statistical data. A video description of the cystectomy procedure using this technique was presented at the American Urological Association’s Congress in 2018, demonstrating how the cystectomy is performed with this new approach.
