Due to the medical and scientific activities of Professor Guram Karazanashvili’s Urology Hub, Georgia will again be in the center of the attention of the world urologists. The American Urological Association accepted two scientific papers from “MMT Hospital” at this year’s Congress!
- Targeted biopsy of the prostate with micro-ultrasound control – a new standard in the early diagnosis of prostate cancer
- Bladder cancer surgery (cystectomy) with an innovative technique developed by Professor Guram Karazanashvili which has significantly reduced the life-threatening complications of this large-scale surgical intervention.
Professor Guram Karazanashvili will present the report to the world’s largest scientific audience in Las Vegas.
The Congress of the American Urological Association is the most authoritative scientific forum, where one of the most important is the quality of scientific news, which is ensured by the strictest selection of scientific papers and a highly qualified medical commission.
Accepting papers on bladder and prostate tumors, two of the most widely used diagnostic and treatment methods at this highly acclaimed scientific forum, is another clear example of the global course that MMT Hospital has and confirms. That Professor Guram Karazanshvili develops ultra-modern technologies for the benefit of humans.
So what is the significance and innovation of the papers presented at the Congress, what new opportunities does this research open for doctors and their patients:
As mentioned, latest method of prostate biopsy, which has already been ordered at MMT Hospital and which, on the one hand, significantly increased the rate of early detection of prostate cancer, and on the other hand – reduced the number of unnecessary biopsies will be presented at the Congress in Las-Vegas.
What is new and what is the advantage / potential of the method?
Targeted biopsy of the prostate with micro-ultrasound control, based on 300% improved imaging and accurate targeting of the suspicious area;
Implemented on the Exact Vu micro-ultrasound platform designed specifically for prostate examination, the technology operates at a high frequency (29 MHz), provides an extremely high level of resolution / visualization, which significantly improves the detection of suspicious prostate damage and provides accurate, ‘live’. Therefore, excludes “blind”, unnecessary biopsies, multi-stage studies and cancer detection in almost 100% of cases.
As for the second scientific paper, bladder cancer surgery with innovative techniques:
Radical cystectomy is the standard method of treating bladder cancer, which is generally one of the longest and most difficult operations in terms of surgical scale and complexity. The main problem is postoperative complications. In order to minimize the latter, a new technique was developed and introduced at MMT Hospital by Professor Guram Karazanashvili – saving the peritoneum and complete extraperitonealization of the new bladder. Performing operations with this innovative technique reduced life-threatening complications from a total percentage of 30.3% to 5.08%.
The video recording of the cystectomy performed with these techniques was presented in 2018 at the Congress of the American Urological Association, showing how a cystectomy is performed with a new technique, and this year, at the American Urological Association in Vegas will be presented the results of the performed cystectomy with new equipment-how new techniques have reduced bladder cancer complications of large-scale surgical intervention for treatment
