RUTH – robotic ultrasound thermocoagulation, first introduced in 2021 simultaneously in the USA and Georgia. It represents a robot-assisted treatment method. Over the past 4 years, the method has clearly demonstrated its effectiveness.
Between 2022–2025, this innovative technology became available in several leading countries worldwide.
It is also noteworthy that more and more countries are showing interest in this method. For example, England introduced it only recently, in 2025. Meanwhile, at the Karazanashvili Robotic Center, we have been successfully treating patients with this method for 4 years.
We are proud to state that to date, we are the only clinic in the South Caucasus where the Robotic HIFU service is available.
The Guram Karazanashvili Robotic Center offers Georgian and international patients the highest standards of urological care. The center is equipped with the latest, ultra-modern medical technology and is distinguished by high-quality service.
It is the only clinic in the South Caucasus where all technologies required for comprehensive urological diagnostics are concentrated in one space. Patients receive complete care without leaving the clinic — from diagnosis to treatment.
-
The method ensures extreme precision — the robot performs all manipulations with millimeter accuracy.
-
Protection from human error.
-
RUTHI is not surgery.
-
It is not traditional radiation therapy.
-
It does not damage healthy tissues.
-
By localized heating, it destroys cancer cells while preserving healthy prostate tissue.
-
The patient requires only a single clinic visit.
-
The post-procedural period is very short — discharge is possible the same day.
-
The patient preserves sexual function.
-
It does not cause urinary incontinence.
How does Robotic HIFU therapy work?
RUTH (Robotic HIFU) operates through the integration of high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), micro-ultrasound, and biopsy data. It provides a detailed 3D image of the prostate, enabling precise visualization of diseased tissue.
The physician can see the prostate in three dimensions; treatment is planned based on this 3D image and then robotic ultrasound therapy (RUTHI) is performed.
The system consists of a treatment table, control panel, visualization unit, and therapeutic probe. During the procedure:
-
The patient lies comfortably on the treatment table in a lateral position.
-
The urologist plans navigation based on 3D imaging.
-
The robotic system delivers treatment with millimeter precision, which cannot be achieved manually.
Advantages of the Treatment
-
The process is fully controlled by the physician.
-
Real-time monitoring of the treatment is possible.
-
The procedure can be stopped and adjusted at any moment.
-
Treatment is based on precise visualization, ensuring maximum safety and effectiveness.
The Karazanashvili Robotic Center offers patients the latest global technologies, including robotic surgical procedures on the prostate, urinary bladder, kidneys, uterus, ovaries, and more.
We provide prostate cancer screening using the only 29-MHz micro-ultrasound in the South Caucasus, targeted prostate fusion biopsy, and non-surgical stone fragmentation.
Urogynecological surgeries are performed for conditions such as urinary incontinence, vaginal prolapse, and others.
Oncogynecological and oncological robotic surgeries, chemo-, hormone-, and targeted therapy, as well as many other services, are available. Full information can be found on our website.
