Robotic surgery is now recognized as one of the most modern and effective approaches in surgical care. This innovative technology allows the surgeon to perform operations with the highest precision and minimal invasiveness through a dedicated robotic system.
In this article, we will explain why robotic surgery has become an irreplaceable part of modern medicine and how it improves patients’ health and quality of life.
It is noteworthy that the Karazanashvili Robotics Center is the first and only clinic in Georgia and the South Caucasus to offer the full spectrum of robotic surgery.
Robotic Surgery — Toumai®
Robotic surgery is rapidly becoming one of the most advanced and effective methods in surgical interventions.
It is a procedure where the surgeon performs the operation through a special robotic system.
At the Karazanashvili Robotics Center, surgical procedures are performed using the latest-generation Toumai® robot.
The surgeon sits at a control console, viewing the operative field on a high-resolution 3D screen. The robot translates each movement of the surgeon’s hands with a precision impossible for the human hand. This technology is especially beneficial in complex surgeries where accuracy is critical — for instance, in urological operations.
-
High precision – enables surgeons to work with maximum accuracy, crucial in complex procedures where even the smallest error can be critical.
-
Minimal invasiveness – unlike open surgery requiring large incisions, robotic surgery uses small incisions, reducing pain and infection risk.
-
Faster recovery – smaller incisions mean patients need less time to fully recover and can return to their normal routine sooner.
-
Reduced blood loss – blood loss during robotic surgery is significantly lower.
-
Protection from human error – for example, the system eliminates issues such as hand tremor.
Benefits for patients:
-
Short postoperative period – many patients can leave the hospital within 2–3 days.
-
Faster rehabilitation – patients quickly resume daily activities, improving quality of life.
-
Cosmetic advantages – small incisions leave minimal scarring, which is important aesthetically.
“Ruth” — Robotic HIFU (Focal One®)
“Ruth” is an innovative, non-invasive, non-surgical method for treating prostate cancer, performed with the French-made Focal One® robot.
The procedure is carried out entirely remotely, without physically touching the prostate — only the tumor-affected areas are heated and destroyed.
Essence of the procedure:
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) precisely targets the diseased area of the prostate, heating it up to 80°C and destroying cancer cells without damaging healthy tissue. The treatment is performed under balanced general anesthesia, lasts from 30 minutes to 2 hours, and the patient usually leaves the clinic within one day.
Advantages and uniqueness of Ruth:
-
Millimetric robotic precision ensures maximal accuracy.
-
Free from human error.
-
Not a surgical operation – cancer cells are destroyed by focused heating, while healthy prostate tissue is preserved.
-
Fully controlled by the physician.
-
Real-time monitoring of the process.
-
Based on high-resolution imaging, ensuring maximum safety.
-
Focal therapy – only the diseased areas are destroyed, avoiding complete prostate removal.
-
Preservation of sexual function.
-
No risk of urinary incontinence.
-
Requires only 1-day hospitalization.
“Ruth” represents a balance between active surveillance and radical treatment of prostate cancer. It enables effective cancer therapy without surgery, with minimal side effects, while preserving patients’ quality of life.
In Which Procedures Do Robotic Surgery and Ruth Have Undeniable Advantages Compared to Other Methods?
-
Nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy – removal of the prostate while preserving sexual function and urinary continence.
-
Partial nephrectomy – removal of kidney tumors while preserving the organ, reducing the risk of future dialysis.
-
Plastic/reconstructive procedures – such as ureteral reimplantation or correction of congenital ureteral abnormalities.
-
Female urology – urinary incontinence, vesicovaginal fistulas, pelvic organ prolapse.
-
Large benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) – removal with reduced risk of complications and faster recovery.
Conclusion
Robotic surgery is not the future — it is the reality of today.
The Karazanashvili Robotics Center is the first and only clinic in Georgia and the South Caucasus to offer the full spectrum of robotic surgery — both the innovative Toumai® system and “Ruth” (Robotic HIFU, Focal One®).
Importantly, our center became the first clinic in the world outside of China to introduce the Toumai® system. Today, this technology is successfully used across all continents — in North and South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
The Karazanashvili Robotics Center provides comprehensive medical services — from diagnosis to surgery and complete rehabilitation — at significantly more affordable costs than, for example, clinics in Turkey.
The center is a true leader in Georgia and the region: a place where patients gain access to high-quality care with innovative methods, maximum safety, and minimal expense.
